Salt Lake City, Utah — The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco appointed Patricia R. Richards chair of the Salt Lake City Branch board of directors, effective January 1, 2017. Ms. Richards is replacing Peter R. Metcalf, Founder, Brand Advocate and Chief Executive Officer Emeritus of Black Diamond, Inc. whose term as Chairman has expired. Mr. Metcalf will remain on the Branch Board as a director, for a term that expires in 2019. In addition, David B. Smith, Chief Operating Officer of the Larry H. Miller Management Corporation, was appointed to the Salt Lake City Branch board of directors effective January 1, 2017. Mr. Smith is replacing Albert T. Wada, Chairman of Wada Farms, Inc., Pingree, Idaho, whose term has expired.
Ms. Richards is President and Chief Executive Officer of SelectHealth, Inc., a wholly-owned not-for-profit health plan subsidiary of Intermountain Healthcare, one of the nation’s top-ranked integrated health systems. SelectHealth provides health insurance to more than 850,000 members in Utah and Idaho, and is recognized as one of the top health plans in the region. Prior to joining SelectHealth in 2009, Ms. Richards served as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Health Alliance Plan of Michigan, an affiliate of the Henry Ford Health System.
Active in the local community, Ms. Richards currently serves as a trustee of the Salt Lake Community College. She also serves on the board of the Alliance of Community Health Plans, a national leadership organization based in Washington, D.C. comprised of innovative health plans and provider groups that are among America’s best at delivering affordable, high-quality coverage and care to more than 18 million people. She has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Toledo, where she also completed her master’s coursework in public healthcare administration. Ms. Richards was recognized as a CEO of the year in 2013 by Utah Business Magazine.
Mr. Smith joined Larry H. Miller Management Corporation in 2013 and has been Chief Operating Officer since January 2016. The Larry H. Miller group of companies consists of the Larry H. Miller Dealerships, the 10th largest auto dealership group in the country; Prestige Financial; Total Care Auto Powered by Landcar; the Utah Jazz; LHM Real Estate; Saxton Horne; Salt Lake Bees; Megaplex Theatres; Fanzz sports apparel retailer; Tour of Utah: and the Vivint Smart Home Arena.
Prior to joining the LHM Management Corporation, Mr. Smith was Head of Mergers & Acquisitions for Leucadia National Corporation and Director of Business Development for Koch Industries Equity Development. He is a board member of the Utah Foundation. Mr. Smith has a BS from the University of Utah, and an MBA from the Marriott School of Business at Brigham Young University.
