Zip Code Economies podcast shares unique and diverse stories from micro-economies within the Twelfth District
San Francisco, California — The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco is launching a new podcast, Zip Code Economies, hosted by the Bank’s President and CEO, Mary C. Daly. The weekly podcast series uncovers stories of hope in unlikely places and puts a human face on micro-economies within the nine Western states of the Federal Reserve’s Twelfth District.
“At a time when society seems more divided than ever, Zip Code Economies explores how individuals and institutions are building bridges at the community level,” said Mary C. Daly, President and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. “In Zip Code Economies, we are sharing stories about people, economies, and how the values we share can create a better tomorrow.”
By elevating stories about what’s working at the micro-level, Zip Code Economies invites listeners to consider how these lessons learned could be applied at the macro-level, in the Twelfth District and beyond.
“The mission of the Federal Reserve is to promote a healthy and stable economy for all Americans,” explained President Daly. “Zip Code Economies provides a forum for people to share their own stories about how they are experiencing our economy. That’s valuable information for those of us working in public service.”
Season one of Zip Code Economies features stories from five different communities within the Twelfth District. The series kicks off in Firebaugh, California, where a rural community is supporting its residents and building opportunity for the next generation. Upcoming episodes will explore the communities of Salt Lake City, Utah; East Palo Alto, California; Honolulu, Hawaii; and San Diego, California.

The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco (SF Fed) works to advance the nation’s monetary, financial, and payment systems to build a stronger economy for all Americans. As part of the U.S. central bank, the SF Fed serves the Twelfth Federal Reserve District, which covers the nine western states—Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai’i, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington—plus American Samoa, Guam, and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. By pursuing our two key goals of maximum employment and price stability—known as the Fed’s dual mandate—we work toward supporting an economy that works for everyone.
